What
You Can Do
There are many things you can do to create a healthier, cleaner community:
- Know the truth. Despite attempts by tobacco companies
to make their product look exciting, glamorous, and fun, smoking is
dirty, expensive,
dangerous, and addictive.
- Be a role model. Most teens, adults and
athletes DON’T use tobacco.
- Help a friend who smokes to quit.
- Ask people not to
smoke around you.
- Eat in smoke-free restaurants and let managers/owners
know how much you appreciate
their smoke-free policies.
- Encourage other restaurants to go smoke-free.
- Don’t
allow smoking in your house or car.
- Volunteer for a special event like
World No-Tobacco Day or the Great American
Smoke Out.
- Report underage tobacco sales to local authorities
and tell merchants you don't
want them selling to kids.
- Cancel your subscriptions to (or don’t
buy) magazines that carry tobacco
advertising.
- Don’t be misled. Smoking is not a Rights issue, it’s
a Health issue.
- Never underestimate the power of the pen. Write letters
to the editor of your local newpaper. Regulating access to tobacco
products
- Reducing tobacco advertising
- Increasing the number
of smoke-free public places
- Increasing access to smoking cessation
programs
- Advocate for local control of smoke-free policies.
- And much more!
